How to Get Your Home Ready for Spring!

Once the temperature is above 65 degrees, it is officially spring in my book! There is something about the warm weather, anticipation of a new season, and the daffodils peeking through, that makes me want to clean, organize, and rearrange my whole house. To me transitioning to spring is more than just a good ol’ fashioned spring cleaning, but it is adding new design elements into my home to revive it after a long, cold winter.

Here four ways to transition your home to spring:

  1. GREENERY: bring the outdoors, inside. There is nothing more that brightens up my day than a vase full of fresh-cut flowers. In the spring, tulips, daffodils, camellias, and greenery give your home life. To me, spring flowers are the happiest—daffodils and tulips make you smile even when you are not trying to! Plus, their stems add height and a cohesive color palette in any arrangement. You do not have to go to the grocery store to find quality flowers (although, you can find some beautiful flowers there, too), most of the time, right in your own backyard, you will find a bounty of flower treasure— stems, moss, rocks, and even logs can make a statement in your home.

2. NEW TEXTILES & LINENS: During winter, we want heavy blankets and pillows, but during spring we crave light, airy, breathable throws and pillows. Over the years, we have invested in a few quality throws and blankets that we can bring out every spring and summer and put them away during the winter. We love linen, soft and subtle patterns and colors, and lots of natural texture. We also love to change out our duvets and add quilts and linen blankets to the end of the bed. Just changing out a few pillows or adding new throws in a space can change the whole look and feel of a room.

3. STORAGE: Spring Cleaning is a REAL thing. After the winter, it is time to put up the heavy coats, mittens, and maybe the left over Christmas box that is sitting in your guest room, and organize! Adding practical, yet chic storage options is always a good option. We love adding big baskets in the mudroom and living room for shoes, blankets, and toys. We love using wire or wicker baskets in a linen closet, bathroom, and bedroom.  One thing we LOVE is a basket or tray for the 10 remotes that live in your living room or media room. In our home, we are always losing an essential remote under the couch, in the playroom, or end up in a play kitchen microwave. In every space we design we try to incorporate baskets or trays to house (or hide..) the things that we can not live without.

4. UPDATE YOUR PATIO: When it begins to get even the slightest bit warm, we start to live outside. From lunch picnics to dinner parties, entertaining outside is very important to our family.  Each year after the last frost, we begin to add new plants, gravel, pillows, or new accessories to our patio. Just like you freshen up the inside, adding new pillows, cushions, and flowers to the outside of your home add a welcoming environment for you to entertain in.

Spring is to be in full swing and we want you to love the home you are in. After a long winter, freshening up your home is one way to ensure that you feel invigorated for the new season ahead. In what ways are you preparing your home to usher in the warmer weather, beautiful flowers, and a new season?
